Course Description:
In this immersive 2 day workshop, we'll be developing a small series of oil paintings on canvas & board, using an intuitive abstract approach, building layers and marks to create a group of works that express your unique ‘inner’ voice.
Day 1:
At the beginning of day 1 we’ll be preparing our canvases & boards with underpainting layers (texture medium and acrylics), to be dry and ready for oil painting later.
In the middle part of the day I’ll be sharing some oil painting tips and techniques, including colour mixing, creating tonal contast, use of mediums, brushes, tools, etc.
You'll experiment with these techniques by creating several small and intuitive ‘studies’ on paper. As well as getting a feel for the materials, this exercise will fire you up with inspiration and excitement for your main paintings!
Day 2:
Here we will develop our canvases and boards with oil paints & mediums, initially focusing on working quickly and instinctively between all pieces, then as the day goes on, we may focus more on developing individual pieces.
There is no rigid plan for this day other than for you to immerse yourself in your paintings! Intuitive painting is all about trusting the process and following your instincts. Your intuitive voice and approach will be unique to you, so there’ll be plenty of time to go at your own pace and I’ll be there to support you along the way.
I aim to create a relaxed environment for you to feel comfortable painting in. There may be a little music along the way to help us switch off those thoughts and ‘tune in’ to our emotions.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a group of 5 paintings at varying stages of development, which can be worked on further at home (after some extra drying time). We’ll take some time at the end of the day to contemplate our pieces within the group. It can be so valuable and inspiring to hear what others ‘see’ or feel in your work!

A minimum of 2 week's notice (prior to course start date) must be given to enable a refund on your course booking. Cancellation within less than 2 weeks prior to the course date will therefore not be refunded. However, in the event I am able to fill your place, a refund will be made.
Should I need to cancel the course myself (due to unforseen circumstances or not having the required number to run), I will aim to give as much notice as possible. You will be offered an alternative course date or refund.
